Evaluation of Technology

The Purpose of this blog is to help become a Tech Savvy Teacher. Each Month, I will be providing feedback on what I have done in my Journey. The first action item was to take an inventory of the technology I use in my classroom. I have plans to incorporate more over time. This is my first year in really using technology in the classroom. My main focus is using Edomodo. I tried a little last year, but have expanded using it this year and learned to set it up where it benefits my students more and making it easier for all to communicate. I also setup a classroom blog, but most students do not access this, and I have not been very good at updating it. I plan on incorporating this more next year as a place to have extra credit for students. On the ipads, the most useful is YourTeacher. This app has short videos and practice for students. I have also used Khan Academy with students who need remediation. In the future, I need to use the technology to get the students to create things instead of just watching videos and games. To wrap this up, I have a long ways to go, but am taking steps to becoming more Tech Savvy

  1. You have come a long way! If you have to think about how to use the technology then maybe it isn't a good fit. Khan and WolframAlpha are good when used for personalized learning. In the meantime, turn the tech over to the students and watch the magic and learn. Many students will use/find free Apps they will ask you to download. Math games are not bad--gaming when used with purpose and intent is a good thing. As far as creation Apps, well this is the purpose of the PLN where you can learn from and collaborate with like minds.
